Several leading Professionals from the field
of Industrial Safety promoted the national body of Safety
Professionals during the year 1977 and named it the "Institution
of Industrial Safety Professionals of India" with their
headquarters at Bombay. The Institution was formally inaugurated
on the 19th August, 1978. The Institution is registered under
the Societies Registration Act 1860 and the Bombay Public
Trust Act 1950. The Institution is an independent, non-commercial,
non-profit making, non-political service organisation, whose
aims are to bring Safety Professionals together and improve
their Professional standards.
Institutions similar to ours such as the Institution of Occupational
Safety & Health UK, American Society of Safety Engineers,
Australian Society of Safety Engineers International Institute
of Risk & Safety Management London and others have been
recognised in their respective countries as competent professional
bodies, who are engaged in promotion of safety and health
of industrial workers and improvements of safety standards.
